What is the difference between CAP and other manufacturer's programs?

In CAP you will learn specific technologies used exclusively on Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep products. In addition, CAP is an internship based program where the student applies knowledge learned in college while at their sponsoring dealership.
How do I know if I meet the college requirements for admission?
We recommend that you contact the college of your choice directly (contact information is located in the colleges section of CAP website), to determine admissions requirements and your eligibility for that specific college/university.
Does CAP offer paid internships?
Yes, generally the student and dealer negotiate on an hourly wage for each internship period during the sponsorship process.
How long does a student commit to the sponsoring dealership after graduation?
The terms of employment are negotiated between the student and the dealership prior to dealer sponsoring the student and generally depend on the amount of financial assistance the dealer provides. For example, if the dealer absorbs the college tuition and book expenses the student will typically agree to work at the dealership for 24 months after graduation. Again, this is negotiable and in instances where the student is responsible for his/her tuition and book expenses, they typically have the option to leave the sponsoring dealership after graduation.
Who do I contact at the CAP college for an application?
You can contact the college CAP Coordinator from the CAP website (colleges section) and they can put you in contact with correct person in their admissions office.
How long does it take to complete CAP?
CAP is a 2-year Associates Degree program and can generally be completed in 18 – 24 months, depending on academic load taken each semester/quarter.
I am currently interested in CAP, I have been talking with some Chrysler technicians I know and they keep talking about levels of certification. Can you tell me what level of Chrysler certification do CAP students graduate with?
Generally speaking, a typical CAP student graduates at level 3 in a number of skill areas in the Chrysler Technical Training Skill Core Curriculum. We recommend that you contact the CAP college of your choice for more information about their program and specific college requirements.
Are there scholarships available?
Most CAP colleges offer student scholarships based on specific criteria (i.e. financial need, academic qualifications, etc.). We recommend you contact the CAP College of your choice and they can provide specific information regarding scholarship availability and your eligibility at their college.
I was recently discharged from the military and I’m interested in entering CAP to earn my college degree, what should I do?

We have two recommendations first, we recommend that you contact the CAP College of your choice directly (contact information is located in the College Section of the CAP website), to determine admissions process and your eligibility for enrollment in that college.

Secondly, we recommend that you visit www.chryslerllc.com and click on “Military Support”, from there you can review dealer open positions and submit your resume to dealers you choose that you are interested in working at. Dealers that post open positions in this section are looking to hire military veterans at their dealership. Many are also interested in being a dealer sponsor for veterans interested in attending CAP.

I’m not sure I want my child to be a technician. Is it possible to support a family on a technician’s wage?

The automotive service industry is looking for quality technicians to fulfill current open positions. Technologies used in today’s automobiles are very complex, constantly changing and require some specific skills that must be learned to properly diagnose and maintain these vehicles. Good technicians can make a good living to support their family and are in high demand at Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealerships.

My daughter is interested in being a technician. Is CAP a good career choice for her?
The automotive service industry is looking for quality technicians regardless of gender. More and more women are entering this industry and are very successful. This is an excellent time for your daughter to enter CAP.
Are students required to have their own tools prior to entering college?
A list of tools needed is provided by the college along with a timeline as to when the tools are required. Reputable tool companies from whom to purchase tools at a reasonable cost will be provided by the college. Students have the ability to purchase tools at significantly reduced prices from most reputable tool companies because of their “student” status.
What are the benefits of my child attending CAP?

They learn exclusively on Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep products as well as Chrysler diagnostic technologies and service information. Consequently their product knowledge is much greater than someone with a generic certificate or automotive degree.

In addition, upon successful completion of the 2-year program, the graduate receives an Associates Degree in Automotive Service Technology (or equivalent). Most of these credits are transferable toward a Bachelors Degree, should the student wish to continue his/her education.

How does Chrysler support CAP?

Chrysler supplies each CAP college with training aids including latest production vehicles, components, diagnostic equipment, service information and Chrysler specific training materials.

In addition, each CAP instructor is required to attend specific training courses to stay current with technologies used on Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep products.

What is the advantage to sponsoring and ultimately hiring a CAP student?

CAP students learn exclusively on the latest Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles and related diagnostic and service information technologies. In addition, they learn and receive training credit in the Chrysler Technical Skill Core Curriculum as they progress through CAP and upon graduation are generally at or through level 3 in several skill areas.

It is hands-on experience that your next generation of service technicians cannot get anywhere else.

Can I have an impact on what is taught at the CAP College?

Absolutely, Chrysler requires each CAP College to create a Dealer Advisory Board with the purpose of ensuring that the college is meeting the industry needs. We encourage all sponsoring dealers to be an active participant on the Dealer Advisory Board at their CAP College.

How often will the CAP student intern at my dealership?

It depends on the CAP College learning sequence/format. Generally the student rotates between the college and the sponsoring dealership each semester/quarter (i.e. attends college one semester and the dealer the next), alternating the sequence throughout the 2-year process.

Who do I contact about sponsoring a CAP student?
You can contact the CAP Coordinator directly at the CAP College of your choice, using the CAP website (colleges section). Another option is to contact your local District Manager or Business Center Service & Parts Manager and they can get the process started.
Is it possible to sponsor more than one CAP student at a time?

Yes, there are several dealers today sponsoring multiple students. What they have found is that after graduation these students are well-rounded employees and very quickly become some of their most loyal and dedicated employees on their staff.

I have a current employee that I would like to sponsor in CAP, who do I contact to get them enrolled in CAP?

We recommend that you contact the CAP Coordinator at the CAP College that your employee would like to attend. The CAP Coordinator can provide you with specific information about CAP at their College and put you in contact with the correct person in the Admissions Office.

I recently hired a military veteran through Chrysler’s “Honoring Those Who Serve” initiative and I would like to sponsor them into CAP. Is that possible?
