To help vocational educators recruit, mentor, and train tomorrow’s technicians, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) offers certification for technician training programs.

The National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) was established in 1983 as an independent, non-profit organization with one mission – To evaluate technician training programs against standards developed by the automotive industry and recommend qualifying programs for certification (accreditation) by ASE, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

The purpose of the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) program is to improve the quality of training offered at secondary and post-secondary, public and proprietary schools.

NATEF is the national standard of achievement for schools with automotive technical training programs. Each CAP College is required to be NATEF certified to become eligible for the Chrysler College Automotive Program (CAP) and must obtain NATEF certification for CAP within 36 months of activation at each college.
